The Isar is where you go to nail the basics. The Grade II water is forgiving enough that you can try things without getting hammered, but varied enough to keep it interesting. Turquoise glacial water, wave trains, small drops, plenty of eddies to play with. It runs year-round and it's an easy drive from Munich, so you can get on the water regularly instead of once a season. That's how real progress happens.
